"ESTIU 1993" GETS THE CANNES ÉCRANS JUNIORS
Carla Simón’s début feature keeps gathering recognition at the international festivals and forums
Produced by Inicia Films, Carla Simón’s first feature “Estiu 1993” has received another major award following its already brilliant international career. On this occasion it has received the Cannes Écrans junior Award at this section running parallel to the Festival and dedicated to the 13-15 years old. The youngsters themselves decide which is to be the award-winning feature. Simón’s movie was competing with other seven international films.
“Estiu 1993” tells the story of Frida, a six-years old girl who loses her mother to AIDS and is compelled to start a new life with her aunt and uncle and her cousins. The autobiographical nature of the film has contributed to its authenticity and international projection.
Antaviana films has been responsible for the film’s sound mix.
